MFE supports Karuna Trust’s Skill Training Program and Manasa Transit Care Centre. Karuna Trust gives prime importance in building capacity of the health workers. Through their skill lab training program they provide regular in-service training to the health workers to enhance the capabilities.The trainers conducting the program include program managers and six staff nurses of Karuna Trust who have received intensive training on the topics of skill lab training from the State Institute of Health, Bangalore. They in-turn conduct sessions for health workers and paramedics of Karuna Trust run Primary Healthcare Centres. Manasa is a novel venture catering to the homeless and mentally ill women to provide them shelter, care and solace which is located at Mysore. The services include a mental Health Help Line, Transit Care Centre, Psychiatric Assistance and identification of mentally ill at Nirashritara Parihara Kendra, Mysore. The Transit Care Centre is situated in one-acre land at C.A. Site No. 4, Lalithadripura Main Road, KC Layout, Mysore which is about 3 kms from Mysore Bus stand. The Centre consists of 6 wards with a capacity of 50 beds and consultation room, office room, kitchen, dining hall, staff quarters, occupational therapy room and big veranda for vocational training activities.

The objectives of this program are:

  • To identify gaps and upgrade, as per the government guidelines, the PHCs in terms of infrastructure, human resources, equipment, supplies and drugs.

  • o Implement additional innovative programmes along with the existing programmes as part of HWC.

  • Create an effective model PHWC and advocacy for scaling up the model by the Government.

Model Public Health and Wellness Centre
The National Health Mission (NHM) is creating a network of 1,50,000 Health and Wellness Centres by upgrading existing Sub Centres (SCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC), which is universal and free to all those who access public health facilities. In partnership with the Karuna Trust, Motivation for Excellence is supporting the upgradation of 2 such Public Health Centres in the Gumballi and Thavarekere districts in Karnataka.
